2025 SDGA Golf Hall of Fame Inductees
Barbara Krumm Spears, Pierre – Dr. Barbara Spears, a native of Huron, SD, was the daughter of SD Golf Hall of Fame member Irvin Krumm and a standout junior golfer, winning the Huron CC titles in 1952-1954. She burst on to the women’s golf scene in 1954 winning the first of her two consecutive SDGA Women’s Amateur Championships. Barbara also finished as the runner-up the following year.
With no women’s golf team at the University of South Dakota, she played on the men’s team and was one of the first females to be inducted into the USD Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.
She gave up competitive golf to pursue her dream of becoming a physician, and she completed her studies in Texas and began her practice in Pierre. Over the years, she won many local events and played in the Women’s Amateur when it came to Pierre, finishing 3rd in 1964 and 5th in 1969.
Jason Young, Rapid City – Jason Young grew up in Pierre, where he excelled as a junior golfer and, under the tutelage of Mike Egan, developed a lifelong passion for the golf industry. He went on to have a standout career at Northern State University, earning three All-Conference honors and help lead his team to multiple appearances in the NAIA National Championship, along with capturing several individual titles. In 1992, he claimed the SDGA 2-Man Championship.
Jason became a PGA Member in 1998 and began his professional career at Hillsview Golf Course in Pierre, where he was instrumental in all aspects of operations. He distinguished himself as a premier instructor and as a respected mentor and coach to junior golfers.
He later moved to Rapid City to take the reins at the prestigious Golf Club at Red Rock, where he continued his leadership in golf operations and developed one of the region’s premier junior programs. Under his guidance Jason earned the SDGA Family Junior Program of the Year seven times at Red Rock and Hillsview.
Jason has always been a strong supporter of the South Dakota Golf Association, frequently hosting events and serving as the PGA Advisor to the SDGA Board. He also holds the distinction of having the most appearances of any player in the SoDak Cup.
Patsy Ehret, Huron – Patsy Ehret grew up in Huron and became a student of legendary Huron CC Professional Hobe Richards. In the SDGA Women’s Amateur, Patsy notched 3rd place finishes in 1969 and 1970, and was runner-up in 1971 before breaking through with a victory in 1972. Patsy left South Dakota for Hawaii where she won the Frances Brown Women’s Am and played exhibition golf in Asia. Moving to Alabama, Patsy became a professional and she became the first LPGA Teaching Professional in the state. Mentored by Hubert Green and Jerry Pate, Patsy qualified for the 1977 US Women’s Open at Hazeltine GC. Returning to the amateur ranks in 1992, Patsy won the 1998 Georgia Senior Amateur and made the quarterfinals of the US Senior Women’s Amateur in 2000, with 15 more US Senior Women’s Amateurs to follow including six consecutive years where she was the oldest qualifier in the field. Overall Patsy has won amateur championships in four different states – South Dakota, Hawaii, Georgia, and Florida. Beyond her stellar playing career, she has dedicated herself to the game and raising funds for the LPGA and the Martin County HS Lady Tigers, where she has been the assistant coach since 2014.
