Player Bio

Dr. Barbara Spears, a native of Huron, SD, was the daughter of SD Golf Hall of Fame member Irvin Krumm and a standout junior golfer, winning the Huron CC titles in 1952-1954. She burst on to the women’s golf scene in 1954 winning the first of her two consecutive SDGA Women’s Amateur Championships. Barbara also finished as the runner-up the following year.

With no women’s golf team at the University of South Dakota, she played on the men’s team and was one of the first females to be inducted into the USD Athletic Hall of Fame in 1979.

She gave up competitive golf to pursue her dream of becoming a physician, and she completed her studies in Texas and began her practice in Pierre. Over the years, she won many local events and played in the Women’s Amateur when it came to Pierre, finishing 3rd in 1964 and 5th in 1969.
