The mission of the South Dakota Golf Association is to foster, promote and conserve the true spirit and the best interest in the game of golf in the state of South Dakota, as embodied in its ancient and honorable traditions. The SDGA conducts 15 championships, and sponsors a statewide junior tour and two 36-hole junior invitational tournaments. 

The SDGA Junior Golf Foundation offers six $1,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors, conducts a variety of golf clinics and oversees The First Tee of South Dakota.

USGA, R&A ANNOUNCE NEW RULES OF GOLF FOR 2012
Following a four-year review of golf's 34 playing Rules, changes have been made, most significantly to Rule 18-2b (Ball Moving After Address).
A new exception has been added which exonerates a player from penalty if his ball moves after it has been addressed when it is known or virtually certain he did not cause the ball to move. For example, if a gust of wind moves the ball after it has been addressed, there is no penalty and the ball is played from its new position.

SOUTH DAKOTA HAS STRONG SHOWING IN USGA WOMEN'S TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
South Dakota finished 22nd in the USGA Women's State Team Championship held Oct. 4-6 at The Landings Club in Savannah, Ga.
The team of Karla Murra, Maggie Murphy and Julie Jansa  finished with a three-day total of 478 in the 51-team field.

AMATEURS WIN SODAK CUP
The Amateur Team defeated the Professional Team 12.5-7.5 to win the 16th annual SoDak Cup at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club in Yankton.
The SoDak Cup concluded Sunday with the Amateur Team winning 7 of the 10 singles  matches.
The Amateurs, winning for the first time in three years, hold a 10-5-1 lead in the event which features a team of amateur players representing the SDGA versus a team of PGA professionals from SDGA member clubs.

CHAMPIONS CROWNED IN SDGA SENIOR/MID-AMATEUR TWO-MAN
Jeff Gray and Bill Joens of Brandon won the SDGA Senior Two-Man Championship and Ryan Jansa and Kasey Kogel of Sioux Falls captured the Mid-Amateur Two-Man Championship on Sunday at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.
Gray and Joens, who led after the opening round, shot a 70 on Sunday to finish at 8-under-par 136. Two teams tied for second -- Lou and Jesse Mendoza and Terry Brunken and Jerry Jueneman finished at 3-under 141.
Jansa and Kogel birdied the second playoff hole to defeat Tyler Rachetto and Shane Tipton for the Mid-Amateur title. Both teams finished regulation at 9-under 135. Chris Long and Galen Vavra were third at 137.

BEGEMAN CLAIMS FIRST SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 
Tim Begeman of Madison won his first SDGA Senior Championship on Sunday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
Begeman, who led by four strokes after Saturday's first round 68, finished the 36-hole championship at 4-over 146 to win by one stroke over Steve Pelzl of Aberdeen and Steve Dietrich of SIoux Falls.
Jesse Mendoza of Eagle Butte was fourth at 148, with Lou Mendoza of Lower Brule fifth (152), and Lee Brandt and Greg Kendall, both of Sioux Falls, tied for sixth (153).

CODDINGTON CLAIMS WOMEN'S SENIOR TITLE
Patty Coddington of Sioux Falls won her first SDGA Women's Senior Championship on Saturday at Westward Ho Country Club in Sioux Falls, finishing with a 36-hole total of 165, which was good enough for a two-stroke advantage over Jeri Krsnak of Sioux Falls.

GAHER, PIEPER WIN SDGA JUNIOR TITLES
Chris Gaher of Sioux Falls and Haliee Pieper of Watertown claimed the titles in the SDGA Junior Championship on Tuesday at Brandon Golf Course in Brandon.
Gaher won the boys 16-18 championship with a 36-hole score of 3-under par 139, two strokes better than Ian Rinken of Sioux Falls.
Pieper won the girls 16-18 championship with a two-day score of 154, which was three shots clear of defending champion Megan Mingo of Yankton.

Tony and Taylor Hyronimus of Sioux Falls shot a 2-under-par 69 to win the SDGA Adult-Junior Championship on Sunday at Brandon Golf Course in Brandon.
Brett and Alex Steen of Brookings  and Jeff and Dylan From of Hartford tied for second at 72 in the alternate-shot format..

LONG CAPTURES SECOND STRAIGHT SDGA TITLE
Chris Long of Garretson won his second consecutive SDGA Championship on Sunday, winning the Men's Mid-Amateur Championship at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
Long, who teamed with Shannon Johnson to win the Mixed Team Championship a week ago, parred the final hole to beat Brandon Sigmund by one stroke. Long, the reigning Men's Amateur Championship, won with a 36-hole score of 4-under-par 140. Sigmund, who was tied with Long heading to the final hole, was second at 143. Scott Holm of Brookings was third at 144. Rapid City's Tyler Rachetto, the Match Play champ, and Chad Dubisar of Sioux Falls were next at 145.
George Christopulos of Soux Falls won the second flight (152), Nick Heig of Rapid City won the third flight (160), Mike Noah of Sioux Falls won the fourth flight (159) and Cullen Prasek of Watertown won the fifth flight (172).

JOHNSON, LONG WIN MIXED TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
Shannon Johnson and Chris Long won the inaugural SDGA Mixed Team Championship on Sunday at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
Johnson, the Women's Match Play champion, and Long, the reigning Men's Amateur champion, led after the first round witha 64 then shot a final-round 65 to finish the 36-hole championship at 13-under-par 129.
Kim Kaufman and Tom Carlson shot a second straight 66 to finish second at 132. Chelsea Cadwell and Julean Michels were third at 137, with Morgan Fitts Fitts and Kyle Cooper fourth (138) and Alex Merry and Kevin Buntrock fifth (139).
Kelli Sinksen and her father Bob Endahl won the second flight with a score of 142. Abbie Grevlos and Ian Rinken won the third flight with a score of 150.

JOHNSON WINS WOMEN'S MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Shannon Johnson captured her first SDGA Women's Match Play Championship with a 1 up victory over Paige Osterloo in the 18-hole finale Monday at Brandon Golf Course in Brandon.
Johnson, who earned her 11th SDGA championship title, parred the final hole to notch the victory.
Jenny Coluccio defeated Chelsea Cadwell 6 and 5 in the consolation championship.

RACHETTO CAPTURES MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Tyler Rachetto of Rapid City defeated Tom Carlson of Sioux Falls 2 and 1 in the 36-hole final to win the SDGA Match Play Championship at Moccasin Creek Country Club on Sunday  in Aberdeen.
Rachetto, who won the Two-Man Championship last month with Tyler Evenson, led 2 up after the opening 18 holes. Carlson, a two-time winner of this event including here in 2008, battled back to grab a 1 up lead with 9 holes left. But Rachetto evened the match with a birdie on the par-4 12th and then regained the lead with a birdie on the par-3 13th. After both made par on the 518-yard 14th, Rachetto birdied the 388-yard 15th to go 2 up.
Rachetto closed out the match with a par on the 178-yard 17th.

JANSAS SET RECORD; WEILANDS WIN SENIOR DIVISION AT HUSBAND-WIFE
Ryan and Julie Jansa of Sioux Falls won a record sixth consecutive SDGA Husband-Wife Championship on Sunday at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club in Yankton as bad weather forced cancellation of the second round with most groups having two or three holes left to play.
With scores reverted back to Day 1, the Jansas won with a score of 5-under-par 67, three shots clear of Brett and Jenny Coluccio of Sioux Falls. George and Jill Mollner of Sioux Falls were third at 73.
Steve and Cindy Weiland of Yankton won the first-ever SDGA Senior Husband-Wife Championship as that division completed play Sunday morning.
The Weilands, who led after the first day, shot a final-round 81 to finish the 36-hole championship at 161. Steve and YaVonne Slowey of Yankton and Keel and Patty Coddington of SIoux Falls tied for second at 163. Tom and Janet Boyum of Canton finished fourth at 165, after posting the day's best score (76).
The Sloweys won the second flight, Dean and Karen Rettedal of Scotland won the third flight (176) and Joe and Patti Vig of Yankton won the fourth flight (185).
In the Open Division, Scott and Lynn Hiltunen of Yankton won the second flight (81), William and Katie Hayes of Rapid City won the third flight (82) and Kevin and Tena Becker of Sioux Falls won the fourth flight (86).

RACHETTO, EVENSON CAPTURE TWO-MAN CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
Tyler Rachetto of Rapid City and Tyler Evenson of Lead won the Two-Man Championship on Sunday at Hart Ranch Golf Course in Rapid City.
Thunderstorms that moved into Rapid City late Sunday afternoon forced a cancellation of the second-day's play and Rachetto and Evenson were declared the winners based on their opening-round 63 on Saturday.
Mike Brummer of Rapid City and Pat Lockwood of Brookings were second at 4-under 68. TIed for third at 69 were the teams of Paul and Kyle Schock, Chad Kasten and Ben Rinken, and Ben Irlbeck and Scott Nowak.

BELLET, COLUCCIO DEFEND IN TWO-WOMAN CHAMPIONSHIP Jenny Coluccio of Sioux Falls and Dani Bellet of Lead shot a 6-under 66 in the final round to capture their second straight Two-Woman Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Golf Club at Red Rock in Rapid City.
Bellet and Coluccio finished the 36-hole event at 13-under-par 131. Shannon Johnson and Alex Merry finished second at 144, one stroke better than Sarah Koontz and Paige Osterloo. Three teams shared fourth at 147.
In the net division, Veronica Lesselyoung and Carla DeLeon won the title with a two-day score of 125.
Royaune Jasinski and Kathryn Barrett won the first flight (127), Jennifer Stalley and Krista Young won the second flight (127) and Lesselyoung and DeLeon took the third flight.

MEN'S MATCH PLAY MOVED TO MOCCASIN CREEK CC
Flooding at Dakota Dunes has forced a change of venue for the Men's Match Play Championship.
The championship, to be held July 6-10, will be at Moccasin Creek CC in Aberdeen.

WOMEN'S MATCH PLAY MOVED TO BRANDON GOLF COURSE
Flooding in Pierre and Fort Pierre has forced a change of venue for the 2011 Women's Match Play Championship.
Originally scheduled to be held at Hillsview GC in Pierre on July 8-11, this year's Championship will now be held at Brandon Golf Course in Brandon. The dates remain the same.

MIXED TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP TO DEBUT IN 2011; CHANGE MADE TO HUSBAND-WIFE EVENT
The Board of Directors of the SDGA voted to create a Mixed Team Championship to be held July 16-17 at Willow Run Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
The vote came during the annual meeting of the Board of Directors on Jan. 28-29 in Sioux Falls.
The Mixed Team Championship is open to golfers ages 14 and older who have an active handicap index from an SDGA member club. Teams are comprised of one male and one female and do not have to be married. The format will be Modified Chapman both days.
The Championship will be limited to the first 100 teams to enter once entries are open. Once the field is full, all additional entries will be put on a waiting list in the order received in the event a team withdraws prior to the start of the Championship.
The entry fee will be $180 per team.
The Board of Directors has also approved the creation of a Senior Division in the Husband-Wife Championship. Both players have to meet the age-requirement (55-over) in order to compete in this division. Teams will also be required to declare for this division when entering.
One other change was approved. The Two-Woman Championship was moved to June 11-12 at The Golf Club at Red Rock in Rapid City. This Championship will return to August in 2012.
In other news, the directors elected Denis Fokken of Yankton president and John Knox of Onida vice president for the upcoming year. 

JUNIOR GOLF FOUNDATION OFFERING SIX SCHOLARSHIPS
The South Dakota Junior Golf Foundation is again offering six $1,500 scholarships to seniors graduating from high school in the spring of 2011.
The scholarships will be awarded to students who are residents of South Dakota and who intend to attend a college or university in South Dakota.
The deadline to apply is June 30.
