Player Bio

Dave Hanten became the 27th person to be inducted into the SDGA Hall of Fame. Dave was a force in SDGA championships for 17 years, bursting on the scene as a 15-year-old when he finished second to Phil Donohue in the 1961 Match Play Championship. Dave was the first South Dakota golfer to win six major championships, a record that stood until Ryan Jansa of Sioux Falls eclipsed that mark in 2003. Dave won Match Play crowns in 1969, 1974, and 1976 and was the Stroke Play winner in 1974, 1975, and 1977. He was the first person to win the both the Match Play and Stroke Play championships in the same year (1974), a feat that has been accomplished only four other times. Dave also was runner-up in the Match Play two other times and was medalist in the event four times in a six-year span (1971-76). Dave was a five-time USGA National Amateur Qualifier and a two-time USGA National Junior Qualifier. He was a two-time South Dakota high school champion, as well as a two-time State Jaycee Junior Champion. He was a WAC Collegiate Conference Champion and a WAC All-Conference Selection. Dave was a three-time low amateur in the Arrowhead CC Pro-Am and he has won 17 city championships and 14 Shortstop/Sunday Tournaments. Dave set the course record at Minnehaha Country Club in 1980 (when it was played to a par 70) with a 61. He is currently the Director of Golf at Willow Run Golf Course and is a past president of the SDGA.
